{"id":3162,"date":"2025-07-17T22:19:59","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T22:19:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/?p=3162"},"modified":"2025-07-17T23:50:35","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T23:50:35","slug":"types-of-mobbing-office-mobbing-how-to-detect-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/en\/labor-inclusion\/types-of-mobbing-office-mobbing-how-to-detect-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Types of harassment in the office and how to detect them"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workplace harassment, also known as <em>mobbing<\/em>is a serious problem that can affect the well-being of employees and the productivity of the organization, here we explain its typology and how it can be detected.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In any company, situations of harassment at work can occur.<\/strong> (<em><strong>mobbing<\/strong><\/em>), which have an impact on the development of human talent and <strong>stress the organizational climate<\/strong>below, we explore the <strong>types of harassment<\/strong> and we offer some <strong>examples for early detection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>International Labor Organization (ILO)<\/strong> <strong>defines workplace harassment<\/strong> in the book <em><strong>Promoting equality between women and men in the workplace: A matter of principle <\/strong><\/em>as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\"The verbal or psychological action of a systematic, repeated or persistent nature by which, in the workplace or in connection with work, a person or group of persons injures, humiliates, offends or intimidates a victim.\"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What types of harassment can exist in an office?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Judicial Weekly of the Federation <\/em>of the<strong> Mexico's Supreme Court of Justice classifies harassment in the workplace into three levels<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vertical downward harassment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It happens when a <strong>hierarchical superior exercises abuse of power over a subordinate<\/strong>. It includes humiliation, intentional overwork, constant unfounded criticism or threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Upward vertical harassment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It happens when<strong> one or more persons harassing a superior<\/strong> in such a way as to cast doubt on their authority, <strong>discredit him and make it difficult for him to manage as a leader. <\/strong>of the equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Horizontal harassment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It occurs between collaborators of the <strong>same hierarchical level<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Forms in which workplace harassment can manifest itself<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Harassment in an office can manifest itself in a variety of ways and we will explore how we can detect them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Social isolation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It happens when <strong>ignores or does not speak to another person<\/strong>. This also includes<strong> transferring one of the collaborators to an isolated site<\/strong> to carry out his activities away from the group. This can <strong>impact on the mental health of employees<\/strong>because it causes<strong> the employee doubts his or her worth and capabilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In organizational measures<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As an example of this type of harassment, we have when the<strong> affected person is overworked<\/strong>which is usually accompanied by <strong>unwarranted pressure or setting deadlines that are impossible to meet<\/strong>. In the same way, it happens when <strong>someone is assigned to a degrading job<\/strong>or,<strong> which is of no use<\/strong> in the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Attacks on employees' privacy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It happens when <strong>there are criticisms of a person's intimate life<\/strong>. <strong>This can happen through messages, calls, e-mails, etc. <\/strong>and even in the<strong> daily interaction <\/strong>in conversations.  This is also where the <strong>mockery of physical characteristics, imitation of gestures, and the<\/strong> and the <strong>disqualifications<\/strong> by the <strong>the way someone dresses<\/strong> or fixes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Verbal aggressions<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>They cover the <strong>insults<\/strong>, <strong>cries<\/strong>,<strong> verbal threats<\/strong> and the <strong>constant and unsubstantiated criticism of the work<\/strong> of other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Psychological aggressions<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>They happen when <strong>a person is professionally belittled<\/strong> and when<strong> the work of two or more employees is evaluated unequally<\/strong>. It also happens when<strong> small errors in daily tasks are amplified and dramatized<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Physical violence<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It happens when <strong>words go beyond words<\/strong> and the <strong>Harassment escalates to something physical such as hitting, pulling or touching.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harassment in the workplace has a<strong> negative impact on the performance of the affected persons and sometimes leads to absenteeism.<\/strong>. Likewise, it can lead to a<strong> declining health<\/strong>. The most common manifestations are stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, digestive problems and headaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, it is important to <strong>building safe and healthy workplaces<\/strong>.
