{"id":3220,"date":"2025-07-24T17:53:07","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T17:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/?p=3220"},"modified":"2025-07-31T15:42:49","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T15:42:49","slug":"elements-that-a-breastfeeding-room-should-have-in-a-lactation-room-mexico-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/en\/labor-inclusion\/elements-that-a-breastfeeding-room-should-have-in-a-lactation-room-mexico-office\/","title":{"rendered":"Elements to be included in the office lactation room"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A breastfeeding room or lactation room is vital in companies that have staff who need to feed their babies, here we compile some essential elements that this place must have in an office.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond legal compliance,<strong> Mexican companies recognize the importance of creating work environments that facilitate breastfeeding, as this is a key factor for talent retention.<\/strong> and the promotion of a <strong>inclusive work environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the regulations and thanks to the interviews that we have conducted with <strong>ComproDiverso<\/strong> with several Latin American mothers, <strong>these are the essential elements in a lactation room<\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/en\/affiliations\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/es\/afiliaciones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TO WATCH THE SESSION \"PROMOTION AND BEST PRACTICES IN BREASTFEEDING IN THE WORKPLACE\", PLEASE JOIN COMPRODIVERSO. <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Total privacy <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>space<\/strong> must be <strong>private and exclusive<\/strong>away from traffic areas. <strong>Ideally, it needs to be at least 3 to 6 square meters in size, soundproofed and the door should be lockable.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comfort and essential equipment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For this it is necessary to have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a<strong> comfortable chair<\/strong> (ergonomic, with backrest and armrests) that does not include fabrics, but materials such as vinyl leather, plastic or other washable materials;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a <strong>side table<\/strong> for the extractor and accessories;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>plugs<\/strong> accessible and safe for the electric extractor;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>demijohn<\/strong> with water or any other form of access to potable water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hygiene <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It is vital that the lactation room has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>sink with bowl<\/strong>soap and paper towels;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>easy-to-clean surfaces<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>disinfectant wipes<\/strong> available;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>trash can with lid and pedal<\/strong> for waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safe storage for milk<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Breast milk requires special care<\/strong>The temperature at which it should be kept for preservation purposes. For this it is necessary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>refrigerator with dedicated freezer compartment<\/strong> y <strong>clean<\/strong>clearly labeled for breast milk;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>sterilizable breast pump<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>sterilizer<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>space for them to be able to <strong>tag<\/strong> containers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creation of a pleasant environment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A comfortable space enhances the breastfeeding experience, which is why it is necessary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>soft lighting<\/strong> and warm;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>good ventilation<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>simple decoration<\/strong> and relaxing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1180\" height=\"1316\" src=\"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/sasla-de-lactancia-edited.jpg\" alt=\"lactation room minimum elements\" class=\"wp-image-3415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/sasla-de-lactancia-edited.jpg 1180w, https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/sasla-de-lactancia-edited-269x300.jpg 269w, https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/sasla-de-lactancia-edited-918x1024.jpg 918w, https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/sasla-de-lactancia-edited-768x857.jpg 768w, https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/sasla-de-lactancia-edited-11x12.jpg 11w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1180px) 100vw, 1180px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Minimum elements of a breastfeeding room according to the <em>Guide for the installation and operation of lactation rooms<\/em> \/ Photo: Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does Mexican law say about these spaces?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Protecting and guaranteeing the right to breastfeeding<\/strong> not only complies with the <strong>legal guidelines<\/strong>but also promotes people's wellbeing. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/en\/affiliations\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/comprodiverso.com\/es\/afiliaciones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JOIN COMPRODIVERSO TO WATCH THE SESSION \"PROMOTION AND BEST PRACTICES IN BREASTFEEDING IN THE WORKPLACE\". <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Mexico there are different regulations that have as their purpose to <strong>general guidelines for the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding within the first six months of life<\/strong> and the <strong>access to two extra daily breaks of half an hour each during the breastfeeding period<\/strong> <strong>in an exclusive space <\/strong>and with the characteristics already mentioned above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>The Political Constitution of the United Mexican States guarantees in Article 123 <\/strong>that during the lactation period, the following will be given <strong>two extraordinary breaks of half an hour each per day<\/strong>.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Federal Labor Law, in Article 170<\/strong>establishes a <strong>six weeks' rest before and six weeks' rest after childbirth<\/strong>. In addition, during six months of the breastfeeding period, the following are guaranteed <strong>two extraordinary breaks per day, of half an hour each, to feed their children in a suitable and hygienic place designated by the company, or, when this is not possible, by prior agreement with the company, their working day will be reduced by one hour during the aforementioned period.<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>General Health Law<\/strong>in its <strong>Article 64<\/strong>in addition to <strong>encourage milk to be the exclusive food for six months and a complementary food until well into the second year of life, promote the installation of breastfeeding centers in public and private sector workplaces.<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Article 94 of the Social Security Law and Article 39 of the Law of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers.<\/strong>In the case of the new regulations, the six-month breastfeeding period and the aforementioned breaks are restored.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the disadvantages and possible consequences of not having an adequate lactation room?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Not having a lactation room can create some significant disadvantages.<\/strong> Breast-feeding infants may face a <strong>considerable stress<\/strong> not having a dignified and private place to express milk, which often leads to a lack of <strong>productivity decline<\/strong> and a <strong>increased absenteeism<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the lack of support may result in the <strong>loss of valuable talent<\/strong>people could look for places that offer conditions to be able to have a <strong>work-life balance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since it is a right guaranteed by national and international legislation, non-compliance with this right may result in <strong>financial penalties of up to $500,000 in case of an audit by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare<\/strong> and the <strong>non-certification of NMX-025, the Mexican Standard on Labor Equality and Non-Discrimination.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Did you know what elements a lactation room should have?
